What is a cookie?

A cookie is a harmless text file which is stored in your browser when you visit virtually every web page. The benefit of cookies is that they enable websites to record your visit when you surf this page again. Many people do not know that cookies have been used for 20 years, when the first browsers appeared for the World Wide Web.

A cookies is not a virus, Trojan, worm, spam, spyware and it does not open pop-up windows.

What information does a cookie store?

Cookies do not usually store sensitive information about you, such as credit cards or bank details, photographs, your ID card and personal information. The data that they store is technical, personal preferences, personalisation of content, etc.
The web server is not linked to you as a person, but rather to your web browser. In fact, if you regularly surf with Internet Explorer and try surfing the same website with Firefox or Chrome, you will see that the website does not realise that you are the same person because cookies are actually associated with the browser, not the person.

What type of cookies are there?

  • Technical cookies: They are the most basic and enable, among other things, the determination of whether someone or an automatic application is surfing, when an anonymous user or a registered one is surfing, and basic tariffs for the operation of any dynamic website.
  • Analytic cookies: They collect information regarding the type of browsing that is taking place, the most used sections, consulted products, time zone of use, language, etc.
  • Advertising cookies: They display advertising according to your browsing, country of origin, language, etc.

What are our own cookies and those of third parties?

Our own cookies are those generated by the visited page, and those of third parties are those generated by external services or providers, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.

What happens if I deactivate cookies?
